About 30gs

What inspired the 30g’s for Life program?

30g’s for Life was inspired by Dinah McQueen’s own life journey to a healthier lifestyle.

It all started in 2010, when I woke up with – what felt like – sunburn on the back of my neck.   During the next few days, I felt the same, sunburn-like sensation all over my body, including my feet.   Within a week, I felt like I had the flu but no fever or real flu symptoms, so I kept going full speed ahead.  By the end of the week, I was experiencing severe headaches, worse than a migraine.  They would not go away no matter how much medicine I took.  The next day, I woke up and could not see the clock with my right eye.  I decided that it was time for an emergency room visit.

I was checked into the hospital and a series of tests were completed to confirm I had lesions in my head and neck.  During this time, the sight in my right eye returned.  At the ER, the doctor stated that the symptoms indicated Multiple Sclerosis. I thought that was impossible;  I’m 47 and have been healthy most of my life!

During the next four months, I experienced loss of complete sight in my left eye, impaired ability to walk, tingling in my legs and feet, more and more incognizant, the sunburn feeling all over my body, and off the charts fatigue.   By this time, I was taking several MS prescription drugs and all the while not getting any relief for my symptoms.   I was depressed and thinking about my exit plan.

My partner, Tina, was very worried and during one of her Spiritual Living Circle meetings, she asked the group for support for me.  One of the members recommended a book and program her bother had used to return to health from MS.    I purchased the book “Healing Multiple Sclerosis” by Ann Boroch and began reading about the program that she had used to heal herself.    The book, as well as Ann’s story, gave me hope.   I called Ann, who is also a naturopath, to see if she would accept me as a client.  She agreed and gave me the instructions on how to start healing my body.   Excited to get better, I immediately started living the plan.  After spending a week in the bed detoxifying, my health started improving and the symptoms started going away; I began to have energy again.   I gradually stopped taking the MS medication and within a year, I completed my first sprint Triathlon and won third place.  I was able to return to living the physically active life I had prior to 2010.

In the summer of 2014, I was introduced to Dr. Terry Wahls book, “The Wahls Protocol”.    Dr. Wahls also created a program that proved to heal the body from MS and other autoimmune diseases.   Due to this new found knowledge, I have enhanced my diet to follow Dr. Wahls level II plan.

I have also read, “The Multiple Sclerosis Diet Book” by Dr. Roy Laver Swank.  It outlines a low-fat diet for the treatment of MS.

As of the release of this article, I have been symptom free for 4.5 years.  The latest MRI shows healing and no additional lesions.  The optic nerve damage that caused the loss of vision in my left eye has also experienced healing.  My vision in 2010 was 20/200 and in 2014 it improved to 20/40.  Believe me, I am very grateful that I have experienced the return of most of the sight in my left eye even when the specialist indicated that the optic nerve does not heal.

The three books I have mentioned struck a chord with me and I began to ponder what each of the healthy eating plans had in common.   I concluded it was the elimination or reduction of sugar.  I started investigating to find out more information on how diseases and illness are associated with sugar.  Then, I researched the recommended daily amount of added sugar for adults to find that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends 26 grams or less per day.

Everyone likes a bonus so I added 4 extra grams to create the 30g’s for Life Program!
